During your first consultation a full medical history will need to be taken inline with the guidelines provided by the Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC). A discussion will take place to find out any issues or problems you may have with your feet. Assessments may be carried out at this point which will depend on your medical history; this may include a vascular and a neurological assessment. The podiatrist will diagnose and explain any findings and discuss the treatment options to you. A full treatment will be given which may include nail cutting, removal of hard skin and corns, filing areas of dry skin and will conclude with an application of foot cream.

Biomechanical Assessment

Biomechanical Assessment can help with foot, ankle, knee, and even lower back pain, which can be traced to problems caused by foot instability. It can also improve balance and, ultimately, enhance sports performance. We recommend a full Biomechanical assessment, which includes gait analysis and, if appropriate, an imprint of the foot.

Treatment methods may include insoles, footwear, exercises and manipulation of the foot & ankle.

A biomechanical assessment will aim to discover cause of pain or discomfort in the foot, ankle, knee, hip and back. If this is your first appointment with the podiatrist a full medical history will be taken. The podiatrist will then discuss with you the history of your complaint; how long you have had the pain, can it be linked to an injury, what alleviates the pain, what makes it worse.

A physical examination will then take place, it is a good idea to bring some shorts to change into at this point to give the practitioner a full picture of the way your lower limb moves.

The detailed examination will include a non weight bearing assessment; a weight bearing assessment and a gait (walking and / or running ) analysis.

The practitioner will discuss their findings with you and talk about any treatment options. This may include; footwear advice, stretching exercises or an orthotic/ insole.

Diabetic Check Up

We will undertake a full assessment of the feet and ankles, including circulatory and neurological testing. The circulatory testing will include temperature, pulses and capillary bed refill tests. While the neurological assessment will include testing of the peripheral nervous system, such as soft touch, sharp / dull, deep tendon reflexes amongst others.

Verruca Needling

Verruca needling is a minor surgical procedure to treat stubburn verrucae. It is performed under a local anaesthetic and helps to break down the verruca and create a controlled inflammatory response which stimulates the body’s immune system to recognise the virus and destroy it.

Faqs

Will it hurt?
The anaesthetic is quick with some mild discomfort. After the procedure you may feel some aching in the area treated

Can everyone  have it done?
Verruca needling is suitable for over 16s with stubborn verrucae which have not responded with over the counter treatments.

Do i need a consultation 1st?

Yes. As this is a surgical procedure we will need to confirm that the lesion is a verruca and complete the pre op assessment.

Is there any down time?
On the day of the procedure you will not be able to drive or get public transport so a taxi or lift from a friend or family memeber is advised. You will need to keep your leg elevated for 24hours so may need to arrange time off work depending on your profession.

Healing times

Initial healing of the needling site takes roughly 2 weeks. Results will be seen in 3 -4months.

Nail surgery

Partial or total nail avulsions are perfomed to treat ingrown or thickened toenails. A chemical called phenol can be applied to the nail bed to prevent this from recurring.

Faqs
How long does it take?
We allow an hour for this procedure.

Will it hurt?
The anaesthetic can be uncomfortable and is injected into the base of the toe to numb the toe. While healing there may be some discomfort in the first few days.

Can everyone have it done?
Ingrown toenail surgery is a great option for infected ingrown toenails that cannot be treated conservatively or thickened nails that are difficult to cut and have become painful.

Do I need a consultation first?
Yes as this is a surgical procedure a pre op assesment and full medical history will need to be taken first.

Any reactions side or adverse effects of treatments?
There is a 10% chance of nail regrowth

Do I need to prepare for it?
Complete healing of the surgical site takes 4-6 weeks so best to schedule around any major events or holidays.

What training have you had?
Michaela is a fully qualified podiatrist with over 10 years experience with POM-A and S annotations. She has completed CPD annual updates on local anaesthetic administration, basic life support and theory for Faulkners needling in 2021

Wilde Pedique

Is an elastic UV gel which is set using a UV lamp. LCN Wilde-Pedique Plus was developed as a corrective and restorative toenail treatment. The gel resin has the ability to bond to a surface, add strength and harden.

Faqs

Who is it suitable for?
This is an ideal solution for those clients who are looking for a cosmetically aesthetic look, encouraging nail growth and to strengthen nails.

How long does it last?
This typically requires refilling every 4-6 weeks until the toenail is fully grown or we may recommend removal and replacement of the gel.
